Cantor Julia Cadrain joined Central’s clergy team in 2012, just after being ordained by HUC-JIR’s Debbie Friedman School of Sacred Music. As a cantorial student, she served several communities in the New York area, including Temple Adas Israel as a student cantor, Shaaray Tefilah as a b’nei mitzvah tutor, B’nai Jeshurun (BJ) as a children’s service leader, and the Jewish Home and Hospital as pastoral care provider.
During her time at Central, she has been grateful to work on a number of inspiring projects, including co-producing a record of music from Central’s Friday night service called Sounds of Shabbat.
Cantor Cadrain grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut, and studied classical vocal performance at the New England Conservatory in Boston. She is also a certified vinyasa yoga instructor, and is interested in exploring the interplay between Judaism and yoga, creating new and innovative yoga practices with integrated Jewish content.
Cantor Cadrain lives in Park Slope, Brooklyn with her partner Elana.
