Alfred Youngwood Camp Scholarship Fund

Your contribution will help provide scholarships that send Central Synagogue youth to Reform Jewish summer camps.

Archives Fund

Your contribution will support the collection, documentation, restoration, reproduction and proper storage of thousands of historical materials related to Central Synagogue, its clergy, members and programs.

Breakfast Program (formerly Caring Committee)

Your contribution will provide hot breakfast and brown bag lunch to hundreds of hungry men and women, served twice weekly by volunteers.

Clergy Discretionary Funds

See Gifts in Honor of Clergy
Working with Rabbi Buchdahl and our clergy team, we have revised our approach to providing our clergy with funds for their discretionary use by discontinuing our individual clergy discretionary funds. Instead, we ask those wishing to recognize Central’s clergy to contribute directly to the Synagogue in their honor. Under this new approach, we will allocate Synagogue funds to the clergy, both individually and as a team, for their discretionary use. This shift reflects the team effort involved when our clergy provide support to our members at special or challenging times in their lives. Clergy will be notified of and acknowledge donations made to the Synagogue in their honor.

Emergency Relief Fund

Your contribution will enable us to support those in need of emergency assistance.

The Eric Wasserman Fund

Your contribution will further social justice activities at Central Synagogue, in memory of Eric Wasserman. This fund was established by the Wasserman family, active members of our congregation.

General Fund

Your contribution will offset ongoing operational costs for Central Synagogue.

Gifts in Honor of Clergy

Your contribution will recognize members of Central Synagogue’s clergy team, either collectively or individually. It will help support Central Synagogue and the commitment to providing clergy with funds for them to use at their discretion, individually and collectively, for charitable and religious purposes that are consistent with the Synagogue's detailed policy for use of these funds, as well as Central Synagogue’s mission and tax-exempt status.

To make a donation to the Synagogue in honor of a clergy member, select the General Fund from the Donation Allocation dropdown menu, and enter the clergy member in the Honoree Name field of the Tribute Information section. You may also mail us a check made out to Central Synagogue, with a note on the memo line as to whom it is honoring.

Please note contributions can no longer be made to individual clergy discretionary funds, reflecting our belief in the team effort involved when our clergy provide support to our members at special or challenging times in their lives. For further information, please contact the Clergy Study at (212) 838 5122 x1000.

Mildred Ross Fund

Your contribution will underwrite scholarships and special projects for the May Family Nursery School.

The Rabbi Peter J. Rubinstein Fund for the Renaissance of Reform Judaism

The Rabbi Peter J. Rubinstein Fund for the Renaissance of Reform Judaism is our way of showing our immense appreciation and gratitude for our teacher, leader and friend, Rabbi Peter J. Rubinstein, as he steps aside as Senior Rabbi of Central Synagogue in June 2014.

This fund will enable us to secure Rabbi Rubinstein’s legacy at Central and within the greater Jewish community by supporting initiatives that strengthen Reform Judaism. Initiatives supported by the fund will include, but certainly not be limited to:

  • Innovative programming at Central to enrich our own community and serve as a model for other congregations within the Reform movement. This programming would augment the innovative initiatives that we already pursue within our regular activities.
  • Symposia named in Peter’s honor bringing together leading scholars and practitioners from around the world. These symposia would be sponsored by Central, possibly in conjunction with other leading institutions such as the Hebrew Union College- Institute for Jewish Religion, and would focus on issues critical to the growth and vitality of Reform Judaism. The ideas generated by these symposia could seed new initiatives incubated by Central.

Yahrzeit Fund

Your contribution will support the Synagogue's general operating fund. It is a Jewish custom to make a donation on the anniversary of a loved one's death. Donations for names listed in our Memory Book, printed annually and distributed during Yizkor services, go toward this fund.

Yom Kippur Appeal

Our Yom Kippur liturgy reminds us that while much of life remains beyond our control, we have the power and obligation to make a positive difference in the world by performing acts of tzedakah. Your contribution to our Yom Kippur Appeal will help enhance our vibrant congregation: the ongoing work of our extraordinary clergy; our dynamic educational programs; and maintenance of our magnificent sanctuary. There are various levels of giving:

  • Pillars ($100,000+)
  • Guardians ($50,000 - 99,999)
  • Sustainers ($36,000 - 49,999)
  • Benefactors ($25,000 - 35,999)
  • Executive Council ($18,000 - 24,999)
